MIYUKI MACHIDA

A potter active in Kasama since 2005, Miyuki Machida is unusual in the town for working in porcelain. She has skill in bringing an uncommon warmth to this material, and in her glazes works to enhance its pale beauty.

Originally a student of the potter Masami Kobayashi, she established her own kiln in 2008. Here, Machida makes homeware and ceramic art that have have simple refinement, and quality. This balance and skill in her work make it popular to seek out at pottery fairs and galleries in the Kasama region. Not a traditional practitioner of porcelain ceramics, she fits well into the open creative tradition of Kasama.
