MISHIO SUZUKI

The ceramics of Mishio Suzuki are based on a curiosity, and an open-minded exploration of form. Interested initially in German product design, time spent living there allowed Suzuki to notice the richness of her home region’s ceramic tradition.

On returning to Kasama she entered a period of ceramic training, some of it as an apprentice at the kiln of master potter Akio Nukaga. Now with her own kiln, which is housed in the expanding workshop at the bottom of her garden, she embarks on ceramic journeys. Inspired by nature she sees locally, or by the colours she saw on her travels, Suzuki works across a range of influences and ideas. In outcome, this can mean the blueish white lattice of her ‘lux ‘series, the rich chocolates of ‘birch’, the forest dew-like soft green of ‘laur’ and much more besides.
