YUKIKATSU ISOBE

Yukikatsu Isobe has been a practising potter since 1966, and is part of the rich reserve of craftspeople in Kasama. His family’s pottery works was established in 1795, and has ridden the changing tides in ceramics.

When Isobe began at the business in 1968, it was at the height of the post-war arts and crafts boom in Japan, and this had a formative influence on his work. Adapting to tastes, Isobe has never compromised in delivering the skill of a craftsperson, and in providing a connection to the folk art history of Kasama and Japan. His work has both a tradition, and a freedom.
