TATSUSHI NEMOTO

A technical potter with a strong association to the ceramic university in Kasama, Tatsushi Nemoto has a particular dedication to forming on the wheel. He throws quickly and with precision, but is also adapt in techniques such as icchin slip design, and work with the tobiganna chisel.

In fact Nemoto operates the full toolkit of skills of a Japanese potter, and his work demonstrates the imagination and skill at this disposal. Almost always inspired by nature, this can mean bringing the texture of a forest mushroom to his kyūsu teapot shape, or vases that resemble fallen fruit. Nemoto also often carves directly to clay, adding patterns and rhythmic lines to the pieces that he shapes on the wheel.
