MAKOTO OKI

The ceramics of Makoto Oki have a heavy, metallic sense that reference his background as a jewellery maker and design. The intricacy of the metal type finish interacts with the natural texture of clay, to create a unique and stylish series of forms.

Handling his work almost gives the feeling that it will deposit oil, ash and iron materials. As a ceramist, Oki works on large canvas pieces that demonstrate the detail and drama of form within his work, and in series for the dinner table that offer a cool sophistication. A potter in Kasama since 2007, pieces such as his ‘rivet’ series of vessels for sake, support his growing reputation as a ceramic artist.
